Prof. Dr. Claus Jacob Research Group
On 9 March, we had the pleasure of welcoming Jean-Philippe Reichheld to Saarland University.
In his lecture titled “Redox Regulation of Plant Development and Environmental Stress Responses,” Prof. Reichheld presented recent insights into the role of redox processes in plant development and plant responses to environmental stress.
The visit also provided an opportunity for informal exchange between Prof. Reichheld, researchers, and students during a shared dinner. The discussions continued beyond the lecture and offered valuable perspectives on current research in plant science.

On 11 March, researchers from our team at Saarland University will visit the Saarpfalz-Gymnasium in Homburg to give a 10th-grade science class insights into academic research and university life.
During the visit, students will learn about current topics in chemistry and related fields and gain an overview of what it means to study and work as a researcher. The session will also include an open discussion in which students can ask questions about scientific careers, research topics, and everyday life at the university.
The visit aims to strengthen the connection between school education and university research and to encourage students to explore scientific fields and possible career paths.
Her dissertation focused on vaccine hesitancy in conflict-affected and resource-limited countries, highlighting the role of pharmacists in public health engagement during pandemics.

Navigating Vaccine Hesitancy in Conflict-Affected and Resource-Limited Countries (LMICs):
Expanding the Role of Pharmacists in Public Health Engagement during Pandemics
This dissertation examines vaccine hesitancy (VH), identified by the World Health Organization as a major global health threat, with a particular focus on conflict-affected and low- and middle-income countries. Drawing on empirical studies conducted in Ghana, Syria, and Ukraine, and applying the 5C psychological framework, the research identifies key determinants of vaccination behaviour, including confidence, collective responsibility, and misinformation. The findings underline the importance of trust-based strategies and highlight the expanding role of pharmacists in pandemic preparedness and public health engagement.
We are pleased to announce an upcoming scientific lecture as part of the France Centre’s event series at Saarland University.
Title: Redox Regulation of Plant Development and Environmental Stress Responses
Speaker: Dr. Jean-Philippe Reichheld (Université de Perpignan)
Host: Prof. Dr. Claus Jacob, bioorganic @ Saarland University
Date & Time: March 9, 2026 at 16:00
Location: Saarland University, Campus B2 1, Room 0.02, 66123 Saarbrücken, Germany
In this lecture, Dr. Reichheld will explore how redox post-translational modifications (redox-PTMs) of proteins serve as key regulatory mechanisms in plant development and in the modulation of cellular responses to environmental stress. Redox-PTMs link changes in the cellular redox status – often driven by external stimuli – to major regulatory and signalling pathways. The talk will include clear examples from current plant research to illustrate these fundamental processes.
This presentation will be given in English and is open to all students, researchers, and interested members of the public.
